Genealogy of Jane, Fred, Allen, & Melvin Price

16 March 04
prepared by Allen Price, son of Harold and Guyneth Price

(The genealogy below shows all the ancestors that could be found to date on all lines)

1. The surname Price is derived from the Welsh word "ap Rhys" which means "son of Rhys" . This was modified over the generations to Pryce, Price, and Pries.
2. The "Price" name probably began with Gruffydd ap Rhys (b: 1081-1137) who was a Welsh prince at Rhuddlan Castle in northermost Wales, near the town of Rhyl.
3. See photos of the Welsh Castle (b: Rhuddlan) that is the ancestral home of the Price surname.
4. See actual letter signed by emigrant John Price that was sent to King Charles in 1625 from the Virginia Colony. Letter resides in London Public Record Office, collection CO 1/3.
5. Margaret Price Scruggs Carruth, who founded the Daughters of the Barons of Runnemede, was able to trace John Price's ancestry to eleven of the sixteen barons who left descendants extant.
6. See latest DNA research at Oxford University that can identify your maternal European ancestral "clan" that lived about 20,000 yrs ago.
Geneticist Brian Sykes just authored a book on his research (b: "The Seven Daughters of Eve") that can be bought at Amazon.com.

May 1610 - John Price, the emigrant, came to America 1609-10. After the massacre of Jamestown, he became a man of importance in the Colony, being a member of the House of Burgess elected during the time the company lost its charter and became a royal colony. He was one of 32 who appealed to Charles I of England in 1625 for rights. He lived on the "neck of land" at the falls of the James River. In 1619 he was granted 150 acres of land. He came over on the ship, "Starr". He was born in Montgomery or Brecknock Co. Wales. He was a gentleman freeholder as were his descendants. (b: see original Musters for 1625-26)
